The rules
- Local bans on using gas leaf blowers cover cities from Washington, D.C. to Portland, Oregon, and dozens of suburbs around San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and Boston. Several more start soon: Alexandria, Virginia on Nov 17, 2026; San Mateo and Burbank, California on Jan 1, 2027. Find your town.
- California requires most new small off-road engines sold, including those in mowers, leaf blowers and string trimmers, to be zero-emission since 2024; portable generators follow in 2028. You can keep using gas equipment you already own.
- Five states block local bans: Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa and Texas.
Choose a platform, not a tool
